The Australian Financial Review has announced the expansion of the masthead’s coverage of companies, markets and property with new hires and promotions.  The masthead enhances the coverage of companies, markets and property under the leadership of deputy editor, business Kylar Loussikian and companies editor Vesna Poljak. Primrose Riordan will join the masthead as a companies reporter to focus on private companies and family offices after working for four years as South China Correspondent at the Financial Times in Hong Kong.  Riordan has previously been with the Australian as a foreign affairs and trade reporter for more than two years and a political reporter at The AFR for three years. The Daily Aus and Nike Australia have joined hands to create The Training Squad, a new program to help young female and gender-diverse sports journalists to enter the profession, Mediaweek reports. The partnership aims to provide opportunities for the next generation of aspiring female sports journalists and support them to build a professional identity.  Abbey Wirth, narrative and communications lead at Nike Pacific said the team is looking forward to a “monumental decade” for women’s sport in the Pacific.  “Nike’s mission is to move sport forward and create opportunity for her everywhere you look. Journalist Zach Thompson (pictured) has left his position as News Editor at TechDay, leaving the specialist publisher room to hire Kaleah Salmon.  Thompson had been with the outlet since January 2022, wrapping up his tenure with eighteen months of experience, and is now looking for his next role.  “Truthfully, I'm unsure at this stage what my next position might look like - all I know is I'll be following my passions!” said Thompson.  Tech Day has since brought on Kaleah Salmon. Australia’s longest-serving breakfast host David “Kochie” Koch has announced that he will step down from Seven’s breakfast program Sunrise after 21 years at the helm.  In a long LinkedIn post, Kochie said that after over 5300 shows and 16,000 hours of live TV, it is time to work business hours and have a “bit of flexibility” to focus on his family business, Pinstripe Media.  “I have loved every single minute. And I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved over the last 21 years,” he said.  I've been privileged to experience so many adventures, to meet so many incredible people and to cover so many moments of history in the making. It’s the second time the AFR has looked to its Nine sister title for tech talent. Former Herald/Age telco and media reporter Zoe Samios has also jumped across to the Fin. In a relatively short time on the technology beat, Bonyhady has quickly developed a reputation for being a skilled investigative, breaking news reporter, excelling in his coverage of the turbulent online delivery space as well as his coverage of failed marketing tech company Metigy. Prior to taking on the tech beat, Bonyhady was the paper’s industrial relations reporter, where he shuttled between Sydney and Canberra, covering federal IR issues.
